Gold, platinum and silver also known as precious metals and titanium are base materials for diamond rings. Gold is well known in jewelry for millenniums. The pure gold is 24K and is not used in jewelry due to its malleability. To obtain harder versions of gold is added cupper, silver or nickel so it make 14K, 18K gold which means 14 or 18 parts of gold from total 24 parts. In other countries different standards are used for diamond mountings, like 10K, 9K gold which, of course, is less pure gold. Jewelry gold is usially yellow and white. Red gold is mostly used in Russia.

Platinum, is also a common material for diamond rings. It was discovered in 18th century, is durable and strong, is white and shine, is a rare metal, more expensive than gold. Platinum 900 is used for quality jewelry, and means 900 parts mixed with 100 parts of other metals like palladium and iridium. Platinum is practically non scratch metal.

Titanium is the most recant material used in jewelry, specifically in ring making. There are various titanium grades, like aircraft Ti-6/4, extra hard Ti-6/6/2, commercial pure titanium Ti-999. This metal has the highest strength, the lowest weight, is neutral to human body, and does not irritate even the most sensitive skin. Titanium rings usually have white color just like white gold, they a lot lighter then platinum rings, they more durable than any other rings. Titanium rings mostly come with tension settings for diamonds, pearls, sapphires, and other gemstones. A large variety of titanium diamond rings, engagement rings, wedding rings, wedding bands are in demand this days and becoming popular all over the world. Because of low weight, nice look, easy to clean, titanium rings are very practicable and can be wearied in every day base.

Silver was used for jewelry since the Bronze Age. Silvers malleability, ductility and availability made it ideal for people to use it in ornamental jewelry from even prehistorically times. Pure silver is usually mixed with other metals. Silver has a white sheen and tarnishes after exposure to air, it oxidizes. In our days there are many variations of silver, depending of how many parts of pure silver it contains in one thousand parts. The most often for jewelry is used silver 925, what means 92.5% silver. Silver 800, 80% silver is used primarily for casting purposes
